Ken Isherwood

I began to study ceramics at Manchester High School of Art in 1963 and later was awarded the Diploma in Art and Design from Camberwell School of Art in London followed by the ATD at Liverpool University.

In London I was taught by many world famous potters, including members of the Bernard Leach family, Colin Pearson, Shoji Hamada from Japan, Hans Coper and Dame Lucie Rie OBE, CBE, my personal tutor.

I have sold my ceramics in galleries and museums all over the UK. I made a chalice for Pope John Paul 11 when he came to visit Manchester.

A large part of my work is based on form and structure, particularly domestic ceramics. From the earliest civilizations on earth, very few people have got through the day without handling a cup, mug, plate, bowl, storage jar, or a wine jug made from clay.
